The Perfectly Flawed Foundation

Just a few years after graduating from one of the top engineering schools in the world, no education could have prepared me for the path I was about to choose. Hidden in plain sight amongst my small town community in white, middle-America, I worked three jobs, grew marijuana and sold my prescriptions to support a $5ooo+/month heroin habit. It felt inescapable. For fourteen years, three hour round trips in the middle of the night down “heroin highway” to inner-city Chicago were routine…all while trying to be an active father and stay under the radar of my co-workers, family and friends. I convinced myself that I was a poker player in the game of the life so I could justify my lies. Thankfully, I did not have to steal to support my habit, yet I experienced first-hand, the chains that bind those who do. Currently, I am burdened with mounds of debt and an empty bank account…but I want no hand-outs. I got myself into this mess, so I’m going to get myself out of it. Now a divorced, single father of a 6-year old boy, follow me on this journey as I try to take some of the pain away from users and their loved ones and show others my “steps” with a unique, modern insight. Armed with an arsenal of thoughts built over a life of poor choices and substance abuse, I don’t come at you with books or degrees. Rather, my story is a raw, inside perspective from years of battling in the trenches, silently checking myself in and out of rehabs until I finally had enough and discovered the right path.
